A note on synthetic data for replication purposes in agricultural economics

Empirical studies in agricultural economics usually involve policy implications. In many cases, such rely on proprietary or confidential data that cannot be published along with the article, challenging replicability and credibility of results. To overcome this problem, use synthetic data—that is, do not contain a single unit original data—has been proposed. note, we illustrate utility generation methods for replication purposes using range from production analysis. More specifically, compare input elasticities technical efficiency scores based different farm-level between data. We generate non-parametric method classification regression trees (CART) parametric linear regressions. find result distributions are very similar to data, especially when generated CART, conclude implications research community.
